Medium has paid me “ a quarter for thoughts this year”, for basically writing 25 articles on their site. I am not really sure how I earned 25 cents for a combined 25 articles, but by receiving this small payment, I can now boast to family members that I am a “paid writer”.

I joined Medium during the height of the pandemic as a means of providing structure to my days and to help combat depression that set in as I witnessed family members die of covid, and all my 2020 plans unravel.

See 2020 was supposed to be “my year”. I had recently retired from my 80 hour work week life in corporate America and was ready to travel and see long lost friends and relatives I had not seen in years due to my hectic work schedule. I retired four years earlier than planned after surviving a breast cancer scare, and after no longer being able to tolerate my hamster wheel existence, and routine that dictated my life for over 35 years.

I have written many articles on Medium about my experiences in the corporate world and about my love of hiking and have used this forum to post my blogs on various Facebook sites that feature these areas of interest. The article that gained the most views was the“Six things I did during the pandemic to keep sane”, which I figure was a testament to other readers seeking ways to escape the mental funk they were in.

I will continue to pay the $5 monthly membership fee to write on Medium as I enjoy reading the articles of authors who are much more talented than I am of which many, receive hundreds of “claps” for every article they write.

Medium provides a perfect low cost blog forum for bush league writers like me to write down our thoughts which we can look back on in future years and be thankful that we had Medium to help us survive the Pandemic.

Thankfully, I do not need the income I receive from Medium to survive. But I sure will be jumping for joy when I earn more than 10 cents on one of my future stories.
